Basic Hacking Environment
SECTION 3
Why the right environment matters?
Having the right environment is crucial for effective hacking. Doing it the
right way ensures you can test and learn without risking your main system.
What are the benefits:
- You get isolation from your main system
- It's a safe space to experiment
- Environment repeatability
⚠️ It's like defusing a bomb: you will not defuse it on your kitchen table, but in a safe place.
What are your options?
There are several ways to set up your hacking environment. The most common methods include:
- Virtual Machines (VMs)
- Docker Containers
- Dedicated Hacking Hardware
- USB Live Environments
Each method has its own advantages and disadvantages. The choice depends on your needs, resources, and preferences.
We are going to focus on Virtual Machines (VMs) in this section, as they
provide a good balance of isolation, flexibility, and ease of use.
This is the method we use in the club.
